Two ASUS laptops were selected by R&K—a major supplier of computers and electronics for aeronautic missions to outer space—to provide astronauts with dependable computing during a mission on the MIR Space Station. Both laptops experienced zero defects throughout the 600-day period. "The ASUS laptops never overheated like some of the ones made by other companies," said Sergei Avdeev, the Russian astronaut on the space mission.

ASUS laptops were chosen to perform critical tasks during the PATAGONIA 2000 race, which saw the computers used in hot deserts and snow-covered mountains. A slew of ASUS laptops were chosen to accompany a team of mountaineers on an expedition to reach the top of Mount Everest. Upon reaching the base camp at an elevation of 5,000m, only ASUS laptops continued to operate. Other laptops failed to boot up due to the extremely low ambient temperature. The ASUS U5 even made it to the top of Qomolangma Peak at a staggering height of 8,848.43m, thanks to expedition leader Captain Wang Yongfong who carried it along with him as a tribute to eco-friendly technology—making ASUS laptops the world's first to reach the top of Mount Everest.

ASUS Laptops have proven on separate occasions to function perfectly in the freezing temperatures of the North and South Poles. The most memorable of these expeditions took place on December 16, 2003, when acclaimed mountaineers Shi Wang and Jian Liu set out on their journey to reach the summit of Mount Vinson, the tallest peak in Antarctica at 16,000 feet and where temperature drops well below -100˚F. Wang and Liu each brought along an ASUS S200N laptop to record and share their experiences during the expedition. The S200N met their needs perfectly: it was lightweight and compact, had a large hard disk capacity and could handle the rigors of ascending a mountain. "They worked without a glitch under extreme conditions and severe weather. It was nice to have a laptop I could count on in situations where malfunctions are not tolerable," said Wang.
