AMD to offer alternative Intel Ultrabook
Ultrabooks are set to make a big impact within the next year as it offers a powerful form factor and enable those who use it to remain portable. AMD are now looking to produce cheaper ultrabooks that would be in direct competition with Intel’s Ultrabook.
Digitimes is reporting that AMD will be producing a thin and light laptop that will feature its new Trinity APU and will not be using any of Intel’s hardware. The report also claims that AMD will be looking to offer these laptops around 10% and 20% cheaper than Intel’s. Intel CEO says Windows 8 tablets are set for production soon
Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini has suggested that Windows 8 may be soon going into production. He also went onto say that Android will not be able to compete against Apple unless its operating system Ice Cream Sandwich becomes widespread in use.
In an earnings conference call, he said "Tablets are a little bit about hardware and an awful lot about software," he said. "Until you get to Ice Cream Sandwich, the offering isn't as powerful as with what's out there with Apple. As Ice Cream Sandwich tablets start shipping, you'll begin to see a little bit better receptivity...everything got a little bit better with ICS."
It was his remarks about Windows 8 tablets that caught attention as he said, "The other part of that test [of competing with iPad] of course is the Windows 8 tablets that are being queued up for production."
