When Netbooks first came into production in 2007, they were perfect for people who had spent their time looking for a lightweight, on the go computer. Netbooks were designed for Web browsing and online content absorption, with a bit of office working capability thrown in.

Certain factors about the original devices were limited however; the main problem was the performance, which was limited by Intel’s Atom CPUs and the fact Windows had harsh restrictions on its requirements, which ending up leaving on 1GB of RAM left.

LaptopIntel set to postpone Ultrabooks due to chip delay

It is expected that Intel will announce they are delaying the launch of its Ivy Bridge chip range, which will also cause their next generation of Ultrabooks to be held up. There has been no official announcement from Intel themselves but Digitimes has claimed that shipments of the Ivy Bridge chips will not start until June with a small amount being releaed by April.

In January, the CEO of Intel Paul Otellini said in his earning call, “We'll launch Ivy Bridge, our first 22-nanometer product, in early spring. We have a very fast ramp of Ivy Bridge, strong demand."
