Ice Cream Sandwich Tablets
Currently we have two versions of the Android operating system with one designed for the mobile handset (2.3 Gingerbread) and the other for the tablet device (3.0 Honeycomb). The next update in the operating system will be Android 4.0 otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Android 4.0 is set to bring together both the mobile and tablet operating system under one roof.
The new operating system will bring a host of new features such as new hardware and improved user interface. It is likely that Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will arrive by the end of 2011 and thus just in time for consumers to buy a tablet device during their Christmas shopping.
Unified OS
Android 4.0 will be a single operating system that will work both set of devices and the user interface will adjust to what devices it is. With the codebase now amalgamated together, it means developers only to code their applications once so that they will work on both Android phone handsets and tablets. In addition, Google will give out a new APIs that developers will be able to using in coding their apps for Android 4.0 devices.
User Interface
The interface used for Honeycomb 3.0 will be transferring to Android 4.0. There will also be mobile phone handset manufacturers that will designed their custom user inteface. The user interface has designed that you can adjust the size of home screen widgets.
Specifications
Third-party devices for the Android 4.0 operating system will probably allow you to connect devices such as a keyboard and USB mouse for playing games. These devices can be connected via USB with Bluetooth capabilities expected to be added later.
For handset users, Android 4.0 will bring an extended multi-tasking tool and a system manager that will make sure you do not run out of memory.
Facial recognition technology is being added to the new OS where it will be able to track the movement of your face and then adjust the image in order to create a 3D effect.
Hardware
Google has agreed with its manufacturing partners that when making new devices, it will use the latest Android updates for the next eighteen months with the likes of Samsung agreed that they will distribute updates more quickly.
